Women in construction pay their tribute to Dr Thandi Ndlovu

Dr T was not only an Activist for the emancipation of women in construction but she was a voice of reason and a sounding board to many leaders including politicians on matters that speak to the transformation agenda of business in the country.

Tributes continue to pour in for one of the country’s dynamic women, a businesswoman and construction entrepreneur, Dr Thandi Ndlovu. She died in hospital after being involved in a car accident that claimed four lives on Saturday. Reports say she was on her way to a funeral in Rustenburg when the accident happened.

This tragic accident comes only three days after Ndlovu shared her smiles and knowledge with thousands of women who attended the South African Women in Construction and Build Environment (Sawic & BE) conference at Ingwenyama Lodge and Sports Resort.

“We are grateful of the opportunity to have had the last supper with her at SAWIC & BE Annual Conference and Gala Dinner held on August 21 in Mpumalanga where SAWIC & BE celebrated 22 years of existence. Her work and input towards the empowerment of women was acknowledged by every speaker at the conference which was addressed by the deputy minister of Human Settlements, Pamela Tshwete and the former deputy minister Zou Kota-Mpako.” said Kile Mteto the national president of Sawic.

“SAWIC & BE is deeply saddened and pained by the passing of one of our founder members, Dr T or Sis T. She entered the construction sector at the time when it was unheard of for women to be players in the sector that was and still remains male dominated,” adds Mteto.

Dr Ndlovu will be remembered by many SMME’s in the construction sector who have been saved from closing down through her teachings, coaching and mentoring. “She offered opportunities and funding in some instances.

“Our heartfelt condolences to her family, Motheo Group, SAWIC & BE, all organizations she has served and the South African Business Community at large. She will be sadly missed by all of us but her foot prints of selfless leadership will remain forever embedded in our hearts. Sithi ulale ngoxolo Mbokodo, sister, champion, mentor, stalwart, partner and a developer of note in the build environment. Malibongwe igama lamakhosikazi,”concludes Mteto
