Unemployed Youth needed at Afrika Tikkun

    South Africa has the worst unemployment in the entire world, highly rated for unemployment globally. According to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) Quarterly Labour Force Survey released on 23 June 2020, the employment rate in South Africa has increased to 30.1%. In times of economic crisis young people are the first to lose jobs and last to gain them back. Things got very worse for the youth since the whole world started fighting against the pandemic.

    Before the pandemic South Africa was the leading when it comes to Youth Unemployment. Although there are various reasons for youth unemployment such as population growth, lack of experience, inappropriate ways of searching for a job, and lack of career guidance. Afrika Tikkun is one of the organizations that have taken steps to help or build the future through training young people for Career Development Programs. Afrika Tikkun is a very broad community organization that develop young people from cradle to career.

    They have a Career Development Program which aims to prepare young people who are unemployed for possible employment. This program aims to develop South African youth who have matriculated and unemployed. They are being trained by qualified facilitators for many different skills which are: work readiness, computer literacy, and driver’s license and money skills. The minimum qualification is Matric, if you have tertiary certificate you are more than welcome to apply for this program.

    Naledi Mokoai (26) and Opha Khumalo (22) both enrolled with Afrika Tikkun Career Development Program last year (2019), after graduating they were employed by Afrika Tikkun. Naledi is currently working as Admin in CDP Department and Opha is working as Front Help Desk Referral. They have at least 9 months of work experience. For one to get this opportunity they have to come to the center with soft copy of CV and they will help with the application. Not only they prepare you for work readiness but you get many more opportunities including bursaries.

    They are over thousands young people who have been trained and most of them are being hired by Afrika Tikkun and other companies in partnership with the organization. CDP Department currently looking for young people who are willing to enroll with this program. They simply need your CV with ID copy, Matric Certificate, banking statement, SARS letter.

    Youth unemployment is a major national challenge that needs urgent and coordinated responses to address it. Above all, a comprehensive strategy for youth employment, as part of a focus on expanding employment in South Africa, is necessary.
