DIEPSLOOT- Efforts to curb proliferation of illegal firearms in diepsloot yielded positive results when the police recovered two unlicensed firearms in just one week.
On Wednesday, 26 June 2019, the police made a break through when they arrested a 37 year-old African male for possession of unlicensed firearm. The members were conducting routine patrols on Wednesday night, in extension 1, when they spotted a man making off soon after he had seen the police van. The members swiftly alighted from the vehicle and gave chase and managed to catch the suspect.
Upon searching the suspect, they found a firearm in his possession which he failed to produce a license for, leading to his arrest.
Another major breakthrough was made on Saturday night, 29 June 2019, when another African male, 39 years of age-was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition. Members received a tip-off from the CPF member who alleged to have seen a man with a firearm. The members proceeded to the address in extension 13. Upon arrival, they searched the suspect and found a firearm in his possession. When asked to produce a license for the firearm, he did not produce one and was subsequently arrested.
One suspect has already made an appearance at the Randburg magistrate court and the other will make his appearance on Monday
