JOHANNESBURG – Trade union Solidarity wants private nursery schools to reopen.
The union has now approached the High Court in Pretoria to urgently force the Ministers of Social Development and Cooperative Governance to do allow the schools to open.
The application comes after both ministers failed to respond to an urgent letter sent to them last week.
Departmental nursery schools have been given the green light to open, but their private counterparts have not.
Private early childhood development centres fall under Social Development and not Basic Education, which the union says means they are excluded from basic education’s phasing-in approach.
