JOHANNESBURG – The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) has voiced criticism against the recently approved regulations allowing taxi operators to load their vehicles to full capacity.
Sanco also wants an urgent discussion on taxi fare hikes in Gauteng.
The organisation said the decision to allow taxis to transport passengers at full capacity is putting the lives of commuters at risk.
Sanco Gauteng regional chairperson Abraham Mashishi said the taxi industry needs to be “very much fair and honest”.
Taxi operators are sticking to their guns. They say hiking prices is the only form of surviving.
Santaco said it is conducting a survey among commuters on the fare hike.
It adds fare increases should be done once a year and not be based on the lockdown.
