Police to guard Gauteng healthcare facilities after attacks

Police will now guard 24-hour community healthcare facilities in Gauteng.

The provincial health department wants to ensure that patients and staff are safe following recent attacks at facilities.

In one attack, young men assaulted another man at the South Rand Hospital.

A video of the attack was shared on social media.

The health department said it will introduce measures such as CCTV and panic buttons linked to police stations.

They will also engage unions to find long-term solutions.
