Pikitup distances itself from fake social media recruitment posts

City of Joburg MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD)  Cllr Mpho Moerane would like to put it on record that Pikitup, the waste management company of the City of Johannesburg, has not advertised, nor will it be hiring general workers from the 20th of April 2021, as purported on social media platforms.

Pikitup has noted with concern the fake messages circulated on social media platforms that it will be hiring general workers from the 20th April 2021, and would like to inform residents of the City of Johannesburg that the messages are fake, and that it is not hiring general workers.

Residents are reminded that in the event that Pikitup undertakes a personnel recruitment process, such a process is normally undertaken in compliance with the provision of the Labour Relations Act, which imposes a duty on organizations to advertise posts on public platforms to enable all interested parties with an equal opportunity to compete for the advertised positions. Furthermore, Pikitup’s employment policies advocate for a transparent, equal and fair employment process.

In compliance with the Labour Relations Act and its own internal policies, Pikitup therefore advertises positions or vacancies in newspapers and on its website. It does not advertise vacancies on social media platforms.

It is against this backdrop that Pikitup appeals to members of the public not to heed the fake messages posted on social media platforms purporting that it will be employing general workers
