Mamelodi Sundowns FC (Diepsloot Satellite) has drawn the first blood when they clinched the first Championship of 2018 in the Rand Central Local Football Association Diepsloot Stream.
The team scored and drawn 2 against Cobra United earlier this month. The young Brazilians were crowned Under 14 champions having played all the league matches without loose. The team Mentor Skipper Motloutse alluded that the boys demonstrated quality football added with skills that entertained the crowd throughout the entire season and they responded positively to the instructions. Katlego “Killer” Letuka lead the team from the front and scored 17 goals which made him a leading goal scorer of the league together with his runner-up Harvey Mokwatlo also from Downs with 14 goals.
This satellite team has won many trophies in the past seasons and this year already in their trophy cabinet they added Mandela Cup which was organized to honour world icon Tata Madiba. Sundowns U14 is also chasing the third trophy of the season having qualified to be in the semi-finals of RCLFA Diepsloot stream Cup. Meanwhile, team manager David Mabusela said that the Mamelodi Sundown’s Diepsloot Satellite was initiated to produce and develop quality players that will be sent to Mamelodi
Sundowns Academy team in Pretoria for further development and consideration for senior teams.
“Over the years we have proven to do that successfully as year in and year out our players are taken into academy programme,” says Motloutse. He added by saying in 2019 they want to break a record by adding three players to the academy, and at the moment they have seven players at Academy.
