Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula opened the new R60 million Thembisa Licensing Hub in Ekurhuleni on Monday morning.

The newly-built hub will service motorists from Kempton Park North, the City of Tshwane, the City of Johannesburg off the R21 and Olifantsfontein (R562) highways.

Once the hub is fully operational the facility will provide driver fitness and motor vehicle registration and licensing services.

Mbalula says his department is pleased that the City of Ekurhuleni is working on two other licensing hubs.

The two hubs, Katlehong Licensing Hub and Kwatswaduza Licensing Hub, are both 30% complete.

The minister said the licensing hub in Thembisa illustrates government’s commitment to bring services closer to the previously disadvantaged communities.

Mbulala believes the licensing hub will also stimulate economic activity in the area.

He warned officials, who take bribes at licensing facility, they will be watched at all times.

“This one is beefed up with technology abilities… the setup here is a prevention of corruption.”
