Randburg Magistrates’ Court have on Monday, 8 November 2021, sentenced a Zimbabwean national, Nkululeko Zungu (29) to 2 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
Zungu allegedly robbed a 39-year-old male victim of his cellphone in February 2020. The police were conducting patrols when they allegedly spotted a group of men scuffling on the roadside. When they stopped to intervene, the group ran in different directions and they managed to catch Zungu.
Upon conducting preliminary investigation – the police discovered that the scuffle was a robbery in progress. The suspect was searched and a knife and victim’s cellphone were allegedly found in his possession.
The victim alleged that Zungu and his accomplices, who managed to flee, pointed him with a knife and robbed him of his cellphone.
Zungu was found guilty of armed robbery and in contravention of Immigration Act – he will be deported after serving his sentence as per Court’s directive.
