Entrepreneurship a solution to the high rate of unemployment in South Africa


If our government is serious about reducing the high rate of unemployment, they must invest in small township businesses.’

Alex resident Mthembeni Mkhatshwa (32) left his job in 2015 to start his small business in the township.

Mkhatshwa, who was working at a large furniture manufacturing company, left his job to start Zwide Unisex Hair Salon which is located on the corner of Ruth Street and 6th Avenue.

Mkhatshwa realized that if he started a business he would also be able to create job opportunities for others. “Right now I have two people that I work with who are able to put something on the table for their families which is something that every business person has in mind – to create jobs.
