Active wear, maternity wear, sleepwear, school clothing, bedding, children’s clothing and more to be sold during Level 4.
The Minister of Trade and Industry Ebrahim Patel has issued directions concerning the sale of clothing, footwear and bedding during Level 4 of lockdown.
These regulations flesh out what specific items will be permitted to be sold during this period.
All baby and toddler clothing and footwear items are permitted, while children’s clothing items are specified as follows:
- Schoolwear and school shoes
- Socks and related accessories.
All maternity wear, adult gowns and adult underwear are also permitted to be sold.
Adult footwear includes the following categories:
- Closed-toe heels
- Closed-toe flat shoes
- Sneakers and trainers
- Smart and casual closed-toe shoes
Adult outerwear includes all the usual winter clothing items including activewear, knitwear, jackets and coats, dresses, long-sleeved tops, long-sleeved T-shirts, denim jeans and jackets, pants, one-pieces, leggings, golf shirts and skirts.
A number of items including short-sleeved knit tops, short-sleeved T-shirts and shirts were listed, but requiring retailers to display them to be worn under jackets and jerseys etc. The Government Gazette also listed how specific items should be worn, for example, “Crop bottoms worn with boots and leggings.”
Adult accessories including belts, scarves, beanies, hair accessories, gloves, socks etc. were also listed.
The following bedding items were also permitted:
- Baby bedding and blankets
- Duvet inners
- Mattress protectors
- Sheets and pillowcases
- Electric blankets.
According to Patel, these regulations will remain in place for the duration of the Alert Level 4.
