City of Joburg concerned about the spate of killings

The City of Johannesburg is deeply concerned by the increasing spate of killings of children and young people in Johannesburg.

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo, accompanied by the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina, MMC for Public Safety Cllr Mally Mokoena and MMC for Economic Development Cllr Lloyd Phillips visited the Kolotle family on Thursday in Ivory Park, Region A, to pay their respect and extend their condolences for the loss of their 12-year-old child who was killed in a gruesome manner.

Two weeks ago, a similar incident happened in Dobsonville wherein a girl was raped and killed and within a space of a week, this evil act happened in Ivory Park and Orange Farm respectively.

The City is calling on residents to work with law enforcement agencies to unmask and expose the perpetrators of these barbaric acts. There must be no stone left unturned in exposing these evil-doers. These heartless killers have no place in our society. We call on the criminal justice system to send a strong message against the perpetrators by imposing maximum sentences once they are arrested.

Issued on behalf of the MMC for Health & Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina
