Christmas brought early to the Bophelong Sports Club Boys by Santa Shoebox Project.

Santa Shoe-box Project is a project that has been running since 2006 and so far they have collected and distributed about 858 673 boxes of joy for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. The boxes consist of basic necessities such as Toothbrush, toothpaste, Facecloth, Soap, toy, outfit of clothing, School supplies and Sweets.

On the 18th of November 2019, the boys from the Bophelong Sports Club received boxes full of goodies from the Santa Shoe Box Project. It was smiles all around for the boys and could not hold themselves from un-wrapping their gift boxes.

Speaking to coach Thabo Wesi, he said that “he applied for the Bophelong Sports Club because most boys in the team are from underprivileged background and he wanted to do something nice for them for the festive seasons, instill hope in them for them to also know that they are important and deserves beautiful things. He further went to say that he applied to help those parents who cannot afford to give their children gifts during the festive season and put the smiles on his boy’s face because it takes a village to raise a child”. He said he was extremely happy when he heard that their application was successful.

Township News spoke to few of the Bophelong sports club players and said “they are very happy to have received the gift boxes and appreciate what the coaches have done for them and also what they do for them throughout the year.
