A teacher’s free extra-class initiative needs help to continue helping others.

A 53-year-old English and mathematics teacher at MC Weiller Primary School has embarked on a mission to help struggling schoolchildren with extra classes after school and on Saturdays at her house.

Caroline Mohale has been a teacher for more than twenty years and uses her house’s garage to offer free extra classes to more than 40 children from different schools in and around Alexandra. “I’ve been a teacher for more than twenty years now and it saddens me to see schoolchildren fail because they were not given enough attention in the classroom. When I realized that many children in our community were struggling with their schoolwork, I decided, as a teacher with a calling, to open the doors of my house to help those in need of help.

“I started with only two children and when their peers noticed that their school work was improving every day they also asked to be part of the class and I could not say no to them. Today we help more than forty children”

Mohale added, “With such a fast-growing number of children attending the classes, we find ourselves in dire need for things such as toiletries, chairs and tables, and stationery. We are pleading with the local business people and community members to help us help our children.”
